The Barcelona City Council has obtained authorization from the Directorate General of Security Administration (DGAS) to install 99 new video surveillance cameras in various city locations before the year concludes. New sites include 9 on the Born promenade, 11 at the Carmel bunkers, 30 at the Olympic Ring, 19 in Pegaso Park, and 30 at the Fira de Bellcaire and Fort Pienc.
The Deputy Mayor for Security, Albert Batlle, highlighted that the installation in Pegaso Park was previously planned. According to Batlle, Barcelona was "very little under video surveillance," and he expressed confidence that the city will have 500 new cameras by 2027, with the rollout progressing as authorizations are secured.
These actions are part of phases 2 and 3 of the Videovigilance Plan, which aims for a total of 500 new cameras by 2027. Additionally, final authorization from the DGAS is pending for cameras in Guineueta Park, Àngel Pestaña Square, Red Square, and University Square.
Phase 4 of the plan will include 245 additional cameras in 2027. Once all phases are complete, the public space under video surveillance will cover approximately 5.16% of the city. These new installations are in addition to phase 1, which already saw cameras placed at Catalunya Square, the waterfront, Reial Square, and Rambla del Raval.
With the 26 cameras already installed since the plan's presentation in autumn 2025, Barcelona currently has 186 operational cameras. The goal is to reach a total of 660 cameras when the target of 500 new ones is achieved in 2027.
