After weeks of dry weather, many Barcelona residents have once again heard rain against their windows and seen the sky lit by lightning. This episode, though not generous in water quantity, has ended a streak of 50 consecutive days without precipitation in the city.
The evening sky on Saturday, July 25th, already hinted at a change. Precipitation cells gained strength and approached the city. Shortly after ten at night, the storm intensified, moving from Vallès Occidental towards Barcelonès and Baix Maresme, creating a spectacle of lightning and thunder with a cooler air mass.
The rain was rapid and fleeting, with irregular intensity. The Fabra Observatory recorded 3 liters per square meter, Gràcia measured 5, Sant Andreu 3, and Raval 4. Despite being scarce, the downpour was intense.
This rainfall has ended the dry spell and provided a slight thermal respite. The heat has taken a pause, and temperatures are expected to remain more pleasant during the early morning of Sunday, July 26th. Minimum temperatures dropped by up to five degrees in some areas, a notable change after days of intense heat.
At the Fabra Observatory and other points in Collserola, the streak of tropical nights that had persisted since the beginning of the month has also been broken, leading to a more comfortable atmosphere.
