The city of Barcelona is preparing for this Wednesday's solar eclipse with a special operation that will enhance surveillance in strategic points such as the Collserola mountain range and Montjuïc hill. The objective is to guarantee public safety and the smooth functioning of public services, anticipating a significant influx of people to observe the phenomenon.
Although Barcelona is not within the path of totality, the Moon will obscure approximately 99.7% of the solar disk, allowing for an almost complete observation from the city. The Guàrdia Urbana will coordinate the operation, which will include the deployment of personnel from the Unit for Reinforcement of Emergencies and Proximity (UREP) in the vicinity of Montjuïc Castle to prevent uncivil behavior and support operational services.
In Collserola, officers will be present at the main access points and resting areas, ensuring safety, coexistence, and the protection of the natural environment. Special attention will be paid to preventing illegal parking and unauthorized occupations, recalling the current restrictions in the natural park due to African swine fever. The Guàrdia Urbana will also intensify surveillance on the city's access and exit routes to manage extraordinary mobility.
In parallel, various scientific, cultural, and educational entities are organizing outreach activities about the phenomenon. Facilities such as the Barcelona Museum of Natural Sciences, the Cosmic Science Institute of the University of Barcelona, the ASTER Astronomical Group, the Catalan Photographic Group, CosmoCaixa, and the Modernist Fair of Barcelona are participating with workshops, talks, and guided observations.
