The aim of the subsidy is to attract users who currently use cars or motorcycles, facilitating long or hilly journeys thanks to the electric motor's assistance. The council is confident that this measure will attract new urban cyclists.
The aid will be higher for electric cargo bicycles ('ebikes cargo'), which are more expensive and designed to transport objects, shopping, or children. The prices of these vehicles range from 1,500 to 5,000 euros. Conventional electric bicycles cost approximately between 600 and 1,500 euros, with high-end models exceeding 2,000 euros.
This initiative is part of the municipal strategy to promote cycling in daily mobility in Barcelona, which also includes a pilot program for secure bicycle parking in local premises.
