Barcelona City Council will begin renovation works on Avinguda Roma, between Viladomat and Calàbria streets, next week, with a budget of 4.4 million euros and an estimated completion in spring 2027.

The main objective of this intervention, as reported by the council, is to expand pedestrian space and create new green areas in this part of the Eixample. The project aims to complete the transformation of the avenue into a grand promenade, prioritizing walking and connecting various resting areas.
The renovation includes the creation of a new square of nearly 7,700 square meters in front of the Estel building, extending the promenade to València street. Additionally, a single-platform service lane for emergency vehicles will be incorporated. These works follow the redevelopment of the avenue's first two sections, carried out between 2004 and 2010, which connected to Sants station.
The plan anticipates that, upon completion of these works, construction will begin on the subsequent sections of Avinguda Roma up to Entença street, for which a preliminary project already exists. The councilor for the Eixample district, Jordi Valls, highlighted that the project updates a significant axis of the district, making it "more pleasant and sustainable," improving residents' quality of life, and gaining space for pedestrians and urban greenery, aspects particularly needed in this area.
The transformation of Avinguda Roma, from Aragó street to Plaça dels Països Catalans, has been approached with a comprehensive vision. The urbanization of the surroundings of the Estel Building and the ongoing transformation of the Sants station area have accelerated this study, which will allow for the phased execution of different sections. Following community consultation, the executive project for the first section, between Viladomat and Calàbria, has been approved, continuing the previous works from 2004 and 2010.
