The meeting, held in the Catalan capital, also served to address projects that BBVA is developing in the region and advances in its strategic priorities. These events, named Corporate Banking Days, will span two days and focus on current business challenges, including the transformation driven by the emergence of AI and the international economic and geopolitical context.
During his stay in Barcelona, BBVA's president, Carlos Torres Vila, highlighted the importance of businesses as a strategic priority for the bank, which aims to be a key partner by offering financing and comprehensive support at every stage of their development.
One of the highlighted panels at the conferences focuses on innovation and artificial intelligence applied to business. Participants will include Antonio Bravo, global head of Data at BBVA, and Matt Weaver from OpenAI, a company with which BBVA collaborates to integrate generative AI into its banking business, enhancing customer relationships and internal operations.
Also participating in these meetings will be José García Casteleiro, head of Business and Institutional Banking at BBVA in Spain; Jaime Sáenz de Tejada, global head of Business and Institutional Banking at BBVA; Rafael Doménech, head of Economic Analysis at BBVA Research; Judith Arnal, board member of the Bank of Spain; and Xavier Ferrás, professor at ESADE.
In terms of financing, BBVA provided nearly 5 billion euros in new financing to SMEs and large companies in Catalunya during the first quarter of 2026, an increase of 16.8% compared to the previous year. More than 8,000 Catalan SMEs and large companies chose BBVA as their new bank during this period.
