The meeting, held on September 7 at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the UAB, introduced future professionals to various realities of the sector and offered advice on how to make the most of both academic training and university experience. The event was inaugurated by Manel López-Béjar, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at UAB, and Verónica Araunabeña, President of the CCVC.
Araunabeña presented the Council's work, highlighting the importance of cohesion within the veterinary community and the commitment to providing future professionals with an experience-based perspective. During the event, Grup Gepork (Centauro) donated lab coats to the first-year students.
Subsequently, Quim Segalés, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, moderated a discussion with professionals from various fields: Eduard Anadón (AniCura Glòries Hospital Veterinari), Imma Puigcorbé (Vetsrurals SLP), Eva Tolosa (Catalan Public Health Agency), Eduard Gascón (equine clinician and associate professor at UAB), and Gisela Girmé (Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health España).
The discussion highlighted key aspects such as personal relationships, seizing educational and personal opportunities, and emotional well-being. Professionals emphasized the need to set boundaries at work, maintain a work-life balance, and seek help when necessary.
The importance of internships for gaining exposure to real-world situations and observing how experienced professionals handle daily challenges was also underscored. In terms of professional ethics, the value of developing critical thinking and making evidence-based decisions was emphasized.
The event served to provide a warm welcome to the new students and showcase the diversity of a profession linked to animal health, public health, and society, drawing from the experiences of professionals across different fields.
