The Can Deu Civic Center, located in the Les Corts district, has become the hub for a special summer program celebrating Pride. This weekend features various free activities, marking the start of a pioneering pilot program in the city of Barcelona. The aim is to establish civic centers as venues for nighttime cultural programming, thereby expanding offerings and promoting new uses for municipal facilities.
From July 1st to December 31st, 2027, Can Deu will host a diverse range of initiatives, including workshops, talks, conferences, performances, book presentations, concerts, monologues, and well-being activities. This initiative responds to public demand for extended hours and varied leisure options, particularly targeting young people but also other demographics. District councilor David Escudé highlighted that these spaces are becoming climatic, social, and cultural refuges against climate change.
Friday's program on July 10th begins at 7:00 PM with an institutional welcome by the Commissioner for Child, Adolescent, Youth, and LGBTI Policies, Javier Rodríguez. Following this, the exhibition “Mirades Diverses” (Diverse Gazes) will be inaugurated. The evening continues at 8:30 PM with the roundtable discussion “Viure la diversitat” (Living Diversity) and concludes at 10:30 PM with the performance “La Infanta Gitana”.
On Saturday, July 11th, activities will continue with participatory events. From 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the dance group “Panteres Grogues” (Yellow Panthers) will lead a salsa and aerobics masterclass. Later, from 9:15 PM to 10:30 PM, the Sitges Gay Men’s Chorus will perform.
This initiative is part of the Government Measure “Initiatives for the integral management of the night 2025-2027,” which seeks to promote a safe, inclusive night that respects neighborhood rest. The goal is to diversify nighttime leisure offerings, providing healthy and accessible alternatives that meet the needs of a diverse society and strengthen the local cultural scene.
