The Museum of Medieval History of La Cúria-Presó, a 14th-century building, is undertaking an ambitious project to inventory, study, and catalog the historical, artistic, and cultural heritage of the Town Council of Castelló d'Empúries. Driven by the Department of Historical Heritage, the goal is to update existing inventories and classify movable assets, particularly items from the medieval and modern eras.
Recent work has focused on the municipal lapidary collection, housed in the archaeological deposit of the Convent de Sant Agustí. This collection includes stones, tombstones, and intricately worked architectural fragments, many originating from significant historical buildings of the count's town, including religious convents and noble palaces.
The cataloging is being carried out by Miquel Àngel Fumanal, a doctor in Art History, and Andreu Reixach, an architect. They are analyzing each piece to define its chronology, origin, original function, and artistic characteristics.
Furthermore, this year a selection of the lapidary collection will be digitized using photogrammetry, creating three-dimensional models to facilitate scientific study, conservation, and future dissemination. This project underscores the Town Council of Castelló d'Empúries' commitment to preserving and understanding its historical legacy.
