The Guinardó neighborhood has experienced another container fire, raising concerns about a similar wave of incidents that occurred in 2025. On December 4th, the Mossos d’Esquadra and the Guàrdia Urbana arrested a 63-year-old man, believed to be the arsonist responsible for approximately thirty acts of vandalism across several Barcelona districts.
Sources from the Facebook page La Veu del Guinardó report that the fires have not entirely ceased and continue to occur sporadically. Municipal sources have confirmed that the three containers were set ablaze around 5:00 AM this Thursday on Rambla de la Muntanya.
The fire completely destroyed the containers and caused damage to the facade of a nearby building and its ground-floor commercial premises. Earlier this November, two containers and a car were also set on fire on the same Rambla de la Muntanya.
Following the arrest of the alleged arsonist in December 2025, further fires were reported. On December 17th, two cars, three motorcycles, and part of a building's facade were destroyed. The day before, flames engulfed several motorcycles at another location in the neighborhood. In 2026, fires have been recorded on streets including Segle XX and Villar.
The investigation leading to the arsonist's arrest began in May 2025. He was apprehended while setting fire to vehicles parked on Passeig de Valldaura. During the search, officers found incendiary materials such as paraffin tablets, a lighter, and a face mask. His modus operandi involved waiting until trash disposal times, surveying the area, and using paraffin tablets to ignite the cardboard and paper containers.
