The security arrangements for the Sant Joan celebration in Barcelona have drawn criticism from various political parties within the City Council. Representatives such as Daniel Sirera, leader of the PP municipal group, have denounced the council's response to a stabbing incident at Mar Bella beach and other criminal events that occurred during the day.
Sirera voiced his frustration on social media, questioning the management by Mayor Jaume Collboni. According to the PP representative, the government's explanation for the beach incident—stating it was difficult to prevent because people carry "bread-cutting instruments"—is unacceptable. "Enough of being laughed in our faces," he declared, calling for an mayor who takes the city "seriously" and demanding Batlle's resignation.
“"In Collboni's Barcelona, you can be stabbed on the beach and his government tells you it's difficult to prevent because people carry bread-cutting instruments."
Meanwhile, Jordi Martí Galbis, leader of the Junts municipal group, has also criticized Collboni's executive. The pro-independence party highlighted that the "gun violence" they had warned about weeks prior has become a daily reality, referencing a shooting on Tuesday evening in the El Born area that injured one person during a drug-related assault.
Martí Galbis stated that his party's primary objective, if part of the municipal government, will be to "restore order to the current chaos" and "end the legacy of eleven years of socialists and commoners" in Barcelona.
“"The gun violence that Junts denounced weeks ago is already part of our daily lives. Our first priority as a municipal government will be to restore order to the current chaos we suffer in Barcelona and end the legacy of eleven years of socialists and commoners."
