Between 2016 and 2025, a total of 921 cases were registered in Catalonia, of which 642 were resolved, representing 69.7% of the total. This indicates that in approximately three out of every ten incidents, the perpetrator could not be identified or apprehended, no confession was made, or the offense could not be determined.
In 2025, 99 new cases related to sexual orientation were added, the lowest figure since 2022. During this same period, 20 individuals have been arrested or investigated for these offenses.
The province of Barcelona accounts for the majority of these incidents, with 67 cases registered in 2025, of which 27 remained unresolved. It is followed by Lleida (13 cases), Girona (12), and Tarragona (5). Regarding arrests or investigations, 12 are from the Barcelona province, 5 from Lleida, 2 from Tarragona, and 1 from Girona.
Catalonia recorded the highest number of hate crimes based on sexual orientation in 2025, accounting for approximately 18% of the national total, surpassing the Valencian Community (76 cases). Annually, these crimes amount to nearly a hundred in Catalonia, although the 2025 figure is lower than in the previous two years (111 in 2023 and 116 in 2024), but higher than the 88 in 2022.
Additionally, during 2025, 13 criminal offenses for sex or gender discrimination were recorded in Catalonia, with 10 cases resolved.
