During the first half of 2026, 5,528 criminal incidents were recorded on the Barcelona metro network, according to data from Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB). This figure represents a 34% decrease compared to the same period last year, when 8,388 were detected. These numbers consolidate a downward trend observed since 2019.
This decline is attributed to the preventive measures implemented by TMB and collaboration with security forces. Video surveillance on the network has also been a key factor. TMB president Laia Bonet highlighted that "Despite the sustained increase in demand, crimes continue to fall".
The Barcelona metro network currently has over 11,000 cameras installed on both trains and stations. These devices help resolve complaints and act as a deterrent, facilitating collaboration with the Mossos d’Esquadra and other security forces.
Images captured by the cameras are received at the Metro Control Center and the Center for Security and Civil Protection. They allow for live monitoring of emergency situations activated by users via SOS or information buttons. Recordings are stored and provided to security forces upon request.
The main objective of these measures is to ensure the safety of users, staff, and facilities. Last year, the metro network registered over 480 million validations. Currently, more than 800 private security agents complement the regular coverage on the network.
