Barcelona's Gothic Quarter Prepares for its 2026 Major Festival in May

The annual celebration will run from May 13 to 17, featuring a diverse program of activities for all ages and audiences.

Barcelona's Gothic Quarter is gearing up for its Major Festival, scheduled from May 13 to 17, 2026, offering a wide array of cultural and recreational activities for all audiences.

The Gothic Quarter festivities, which have grown in prominence over the years, will take place across numerous iconic locations in the neighborhood. From Plaça de la Mercè to Plaça del Rei, including Plaça de Carme Simó and Plaça de Medinaceli, the streets will come alive with proposals for all ages.
The program includes notable events such as the opening parade on Wednesday, May 13, which will wind through various streets to Plaça del Rei, where the family show La Festassa amb La Xaxi Band and the official proclamation will take place, followed by a performance by the Dixie Band del Taller de Músics.
On Thursday, May 14, Plaça del Teatre will host Primavera Veïnal al Gòtic, featuring a snack, storytelling, and a lecture on archaeology in Via Laietana. On Friday, May 15, children's popular culture workshops in Plaça del Pi and musical performances in Plaça de la Mercè and Plaça del Duc de Medinaceli will be the highlights, along with the Festa Major Jove in Plaça del Vuit de Març.
On Saturday, May 16, the day will begin with La biblioteca al carrer in Plaça del Teatre and the intercultural gastronomic gathering Cuinant cultures: la ceba at CC Pati Llimona. There will also be a charity paella competition on Rambla de Santa Mònica, the continuation of the Festa Major Jove on Avinguda de la Catedral, and the Tardeo kuir veïnal in Plaça de George Orwell. African music and gastronomy will be featured at the Festival Color Café, also on Rambla de Santa Mònica.
Finally, on Sunday, May 17, children can enjoy the recreational and sports activities of Juguem a les places in Plaça del Vuit de Març. Avinguda de la Catedral will host the Mostra ARCOIRIS, featuring entrepreneurs and local entities, and Plaça de Sant Just will offer a popular sardine barbecue. The festival will conclude with traditional games for all ages in Plaça de Sant Josep Oriol.
