The Education and Democratic Memory program, designed for educational institutions, will provide tools for students to learn about Catalonia's recent past with a critical perspective. This initiative includes routes, workshops, documentaries, educational resources, and traveling exhibitions, as well as itineraries through significant memory sites in Barcelona and across Catalonia.
The primary objective is to develop students' critical thinking. According to the director of Memorial Democràtic, Jordi Font, the program aims to equip young people to "learn to identify discourses that promote discrimination, intolerance, or hatred," while reinforcing values such as respect, coexistence, equity, and empathy. The Minister of Justice, Ramon Espadaler, emphasized the importance of children and young people "knowing our history and understanding the value of freedoms."
In addition to students, the program also supports teaching staff through training activities and networking. Jordi Font highlighted that teacher involvement is crucial for democratic memory to reach new generations with "rigor, critical spirit, and the capacity to generate questions."
