The Astral sailboat of the Open Arms organization will set sail on Tuesday, May 12, from Barcelona's Moll de la Fusta bound for Havana, Cuba, on a humanitarian mission to denounce the blockade against the Caribbean nation.

This initiative, named Rumbo a Cuba (Heading to Cuba), involves twenty organizations and aims to deliver essential aid. The vessel will transport photovoltaic panels intended to ensure the energy self-sufficiency of the care unit at the Juan Manuel Márquez pediatric hospital in Havana.
To fund this important mission, Open Arms has launched a donation campaign. So far, over a thousand people have contributed, raising 65,000 euros. The organization aims to reach 100,000 euros to cover all expedition needs.

"In a context of blockades, as has also happened in Gaza, it is increasingly necessary to strongly defend the basic principles of international humanitarian law."

Òscar Camps · Director of Open Arms
Before its transatlantic voyage, the Astral sailboat will make several stops in Spanish ports over the next three weeks. It is scheduled to call at Valencia, Málaga, Cádiz, and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where solidarity events will be organized to support the initiative and raise awareness about the situation in Cuba.
