Butane Explosion in Poblenou Leaves Eight Injured, Activates Procicat

A butane cylinder explosion in a residential building in Barcelona has resulted in eight injuries, two serious, and mobilized emergency services.

A butane cylinder explosion in a building in the Poblenou neighborhood of Barcelona has caused eight injuries, two of them serious, and activated the Procicat emergency plan.

Emergency services have responded to an incident on Venero street, in Barcelona's Sant Martí district, where a butane explosion caused a fire in a residential building. Barcelona Firefighters are working intensely to extinguish the flames.
As a result of the explosion, one person sustained serious injuries and another is in a less serious condition, both transferred to Vall d'Hebron Hospital. Additionally, six people suffered minor injuries, not requiring hospital transfer.
The affected building has been preventively evacuated, and Civil Protection has activated the Procicat plan in pre-alert phase. To address the situation, the Medical Emergency Service has mobilized nine ambulances, and Barcelona Firefighters have deployed ten units.
The 112 emergency telephone number received about thirty calls related to the incident, the first of which was registered at 1:34 PM.
