The initiative, presented by the technical councilor, seeks to honor personalities and cultural references who have left a significant mark on various generations. In the case of Luis Eduardo Aute, the aim is to highlight his artistic career as a musician, poet, and painter, as well as his connection to Gràcia, where he spent part of his childhood. The gardens on Esteve Terradas street, near Vallcarca avenue, will be the space dedicated to the singer-songwriter.
Regarding Capitán Trueno, one of the most emblematic characters in Spanish comics, created in the 1950s, it is proposed to dedicate the square in front of the Can Carol neighborhood center, also in Vallcarca, to him. This choice has special significance, as the headquarters of the former Bruguera publishing house, responsible for publishing the comic, was for decades the building that now houses the Centre Cívic el Coll – la Bruguera. The technical councilor emphasized the universal values that the character conveys, such as solidarity, justice, and freedom.
“"We have other characters on the waiting list who supported Catalan, such as the musicians Jordi Fàbregas and Ovidi Montllor, who lived for 19 years in La Salut."
The proposal for Capitán Trueno square received unanimous support from all municipal groups. A councilor from the Popular Party took the opportunity to request that the process be expedited to find a location for the interpretation and study center for illustration and comics, which is to house the archive of Bruguera originals. However, the designation of the space for Luis Eduardo Aute was not approved unanimously, as the Junts municipal group voted against it, arguing that there are other relevant figures in Catalan culture awaiting recognition.
According to the established procedure, the Nomenclature Committee will now have to evaluate the suitability of the proposed names before they pass through the corresponding municipal bodies for final approval.
