The Centre for Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies (CCAES) has confirmed the location of a woman who traveled on the same plane as one of the individuals who died from hantavirus. Although the woman shows no symptoms of the disease, the Generalitat has decided to transfer her to Hospital Clínic in Barcelona for quarantined monitoring.
The identification of this person was initially hampered because she changed seats during the flight, complicating the contact tracing efforts in the early stages of the investigation. This situation prevented her immediate location.
In accordance with the protocol established on Friday, May 8, 2026, the woman meets the criteria to be considered a high-risk contact, which is why all preventive surveillance and monitoring measures have been activated. This action is part of the guidelines to contain the potential spread of the virus.
This new identification comes after a South African woman, who also had brief contact with the infected person on the plane and spent seven days in Barcelona, was located on Thursday, May 7, 2026. Health authorities have reported that the latter is in good health and asymptomatic.
