The expulsion of the Catalan-Palestinian activist and a Brazilian colleague was announced by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs via social media. In their statement, the ministry reiterated its stance on not allowing any violation of the naval blockade on Gaza.
The two activists had been held in a migratory detention center until their deportation was finalized. The Global Sumud Flotilla celebrated their release, describing it as
“"a victory for popular mobilization and sustained pressure worldwide during these days."
Despite the release, the organization stated in a video posted on X that thousands of Palestinian prisoners continue to be held in inhumane conditions. They emphasized that, while it is a small step towards a free Palestine, the struggle is far from over and pressure must be maintained.
