Early childhood education professionals for 0 to 3-year-olds in Catalonia, the Valencian Community, and the Balearic Islands have begun a strike day to demand the dignification of the sector and improved working conditions.

The call, which affects both public and private subsidized centers, coincides with the start of the pre-registration period. In Catalonia, the Plataforma 0-3, which brings together various entities and unions such as USTEC, CGT, CCOO, UGT, and the Intersindical, is leading the protests and has scheduled a second strike day for May 20.
This Thursday's mobilizations include decentralized demonstrations in Barcelona, Tarragona, Lleida, and Girona. A unified demonstration in the Catalan capital is planned for May 20. Minimum services have been set at 33% of staff and one faculty member.
Teachers advocate for the 0-3 age group as "essential" and call for salary "dignification," equal working conditions compared to other educational stages, and improvements in occupational health and professional recognition. They criticize high ratios and the precarious and unequal current conditions, with five coexisting management models leading to disparities in calendars, permits, and rights.
The main demand is for the 0-3 age group to be considered another educational stage, with corresponding resources and conditions, and to receive "sufficient and stable" public funding.
