The president of the Junts municipal group at Barcelona City Council has become the first pre-candidate to secure the necessary endorsements to run for mayor of the Catalan capital in the 2027 elections.

The party's internal selection process has reached a decisive stage. Having met the endorsement requirement, the municipal leader has moved ahead of other party members who had also expressed their intention to lead the candidacy for the upcoming municipal elections.
The deadline to submit the required support ends on June 11. Once this period closes, the Municipal Territorial Commission will determine the final procedure to choose the head of the list, which could involve direct proclamation, ratification in an assembly, or a vote among the candidates who have passed the process.
