The CUP has begun the internal process to define its candidacy for the Barcelona City Council ahead of the municipal elections in May 2027, with the goal of presenting its lead candidate in the autumn.

The party has called for the Popular Municipalist Assembly to be held next Saturday at La Violeta de Gràcia. This meeting is intended as a preliminary phase to establish the foundations for the future electoral list, which will also involve Comunistes de Catalunya and Anticapitalistes.
The group seeks to consolidate a political alternative in the city that acts as an opposition to the current municipal government and confronts the far-right. They have stated that the project will prioritize the program and collective work over individual leadership, while acknowledging the importance of the mayoral candidate as a representative of the group.
The schedule set by the CUP includes the presentation of the candidate accompanied by a team of experts in key areas over the coming months. The selection process will be open to the membership to validate the final proposal.
Since 2015, the party has not achieved representation in the Barcelona city council. In the last electoral cycles, the party did not reach the 5% vote threshold required to obtain council seats.
