This September marked the start of the second phase of improvements at La Palmera Square, located in the Verneda i la Pau neighborhood, within the Sant Martí district, as part of the Integral Maintenance Plan (PMI) of the Pla Endreça initiative. This project focuses on pavement renovation and specific upgrades to urban furniture, with a budget of 1 million euros.
The paving works, following the completion of the children's play area remodeling, aim to enhance the safety, accessibility, and quality of the public space. Sidewalks and cobblestone pavement will be renewed, and actions will be taken on benches and bollards.
Priority is given to the reuse of existing cobblestones, which will be treated and reinstalled to reduce the consumption of new materials and maintain the square's original character. These reused cobblestones will also feature an anti-slip treatment for improved safety.
The intervention also includes measures to protect the existing pine trees by widening their root zones to promote their development. Permeable stone and sand strips will be preserved to facilitate rainwater infiltration, thereby improving the trees' water conditions.
The first phase already saw the comprehensive remodeling of the children's play area, expanding it and installing new play equipment with a budget of 350,000 euros. It was fitted with safety rubber flooring and an accessible path from Andrade street.
