The Komparte platform, developed by the Coordination of Donation and Transplant Programs at the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, celebrates its tenth anniversary. Since 2016, this digital tool has been enhancing real-time information management, ensuring the security and efficiency of the delicate organ and tissue donation and transplant process.

The Coordination of Donation and Transplant Programs at the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital began developing the Komparte platform in 2016 with the aim of facilitating the real-time input and retrieval of information for professionals involved in the donation and transplant process. According to Dr. Albert Sandiumenge, Donation and Transplant Coordinator at the hospital, the platform was designed to be "intuitive and visual," allowing professionals to enter and consult data quickly, securely, and confidentially.
Komparte is a multidisciplinary webapp that functions as a real-time updated database. It reproduces the organ and tissue donation process sequence with over 4,500 variables distributed across different areas, utilizing visual management techniques (Lean®) to streamline consultation.
Multiorgan donation requires the mobilization of up to a hundred professionals and rapid information transmission, often by phone, with retrospective validation. An analysis by Vall d'Hebron revealed that 74% of organ extraction procedures begin without all critical documentation, and in 30% of cases, this information is redundant or erroneous. Komparte systematizes this information.
Since 2022, the platform, whose exploitation rights belong to the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), has been fully integrated into clinical practice. It is currently hosted on the Hospital's servers and has over 200 professionals from areas such as medicine, nursing, surgery, donation and transplant coordination, and administration as daily users. The project was recognized with the E-nnova Health Awards 2022.
Komparte minimizes the probability of error by integrating the entered information with hospital (SAP) and regional (OCATT) records. The transplant coordinator validates critical information in real-time, and professionals can access data from anywhere and on any device, provided they meet security access requirements. The platform reduces unnecessary information flows, avoids delays, and centralizes data, also serving as a basis for continuous clinical improvement and future research projects. Work is underway with the Catalan Transplant Organization (OCATT) to explore extending the model to other centers.
