The body has ruled that, despite the entity's legal nature, managing an essential public service requires guaranteeing citizens' linguistic rights. The recommendation states that the level of proficiency required must be proportional to the duties of each position, facilitating the use of Catalan both internally and in relations with other administrations.
The decision follows a complaint filed by a language advocacy group, which detected the absence of linguistic criteria in several selection processes carried out between October 2025 and March 2026. Specifically, 24 positions were analyzed, including technical and management profiles where language proficiency was not assessed.
“"This Sindicatura recommends that TMB, in its selection process calls, establishes the requirement of a level of Catalan language proficiency proportional to the functions of the job position."
This is not the first time the transport company has been challenged on this issue. In 2022, a similar action forced the modification of the terms for a bus driver recruitment call, which initially did not include the linguistic requirement. The complaining entity has announced that it will conduct an exhaustive follow-up on compliance with this new resolution.
