The council has started the process to award seven municipal apartments in Casa Orsola, located in the Eixample district. Of these, six will be offered through a lottery among individuals registered in the Official Protected Housing Applicant Registry of Barcelona (RSHPOB), while a seventh will be reserved for the social inclusion housing program aimed at social sector entities.
The rents for these homes, which range from 46 to 72 square meters, will be between 600 and 900 euros. This measure aims to ensure affordability and avoid disparities with the current tenants of the building, whose contracts have been transferred.
Casa Orsola, owned by the City Council (46%) and the Fundació Hàbitat3 (54%), comprises a total of 25 homes. The purchase operation allowed for the prevention of evictions and the increase of the city's public affordable housing stock.
The Deputy Mayor for Economy, Housing, Finance, and Tourism, Jordi Valls, highlighted that this lottery represents a further step in expanding Barcelona's affordable housing stock, reaffirming the municipal commitment to residential investment.
In addition to these seven apartments, the City Council has also reported the start of the awarding process for another rehabilitated building at Carrer d’Aragó, 317, which will feature eleven apartments managed by the Municipal Housing Institute (IMHAB).
These actions are part of the Pla Viure, a municipal strategy to guarantee the right to housing through the expansion of affordable and social housing, sustainable rehabilitation, and attention to citizen vulnerability.
