This decision comes after two months of negotiations without significant progress, according to the works council. Key demands include legal working hours that allow for work-life balance, equal conditions with other municipal staff, and avoiding salary losses by adhering to the new collective agreement.
The protest is not new; it began on April 20 with stoppages during Sant Jordi week and has continued with an indefinite Saturday strike. Participation has been massive, with 37 out of 40 libraries in the city of Barcelona closing.
“"With this indefinite strike, which is expected to have widespread support, as previous protest days have shown, we want to pressure the Consortium and the City Council to take responsibility and resolve a conflict that has been ongoing for years."
Last Saturday, a hundred workers from the Libraries Consortium and the Diputació demonstrated to highlight the sector's discontent and unite efforts in defending their shared demands.
