The mobilization, under the slogan “Break Chains, Break Stigmas,” emphasized the need to fight social discrimination faced by individuals with mental health diagnoses and to strengthen community support networks.
Javi Jareño, a member of the organizing committee, highlighted the importance of personal visibility: “Stigma is only broken when you show your face, when you explain what happened to your environment, family, or workplace.” He stressed that people with mental health issues “are part of it and contribute greatly. We want nothing for ourselves, but nothing without us.”
During the event, criticisms were also raised against over-medication, with slogans like “More ham and bread, and less diazepam,” and cuts in resources and funding for mental health were denounced. The organization insisted on the importance of “networking.”
The march included workshops, performances, and live music. As a new feature, the performance “The Burial of the Last Madman” was presented, a symbolic action to question stereotypes and promote a more respectful and inclusive view of mental disorders.
Entities such as Federació VEUS, Associació Emilia, Associació Sociocultural Matissos, Associació Sociocultural Nikosia, and ActivaMent Catalunya Associació supported the initiative.
