The Mataró City Council has begun renovating its waste containers, replacing plastic models with 250 new anti-vandalism metal units of increased capacity.

The city of Mataró has started installing 250 new metal containers designed to withstand vandalism and with increased capacity. These new units are being placed in 50 collection areas across the city, progressively replacing the old plastic containers. The main objective is to improve the durability of urban furniture and reduce the costs associated with repair and replacement due to damage.
This first phase of renovation involves the installation of these 250 containers, and the council plans to acquire another 250 this year to continue the replacement program. The new models offer between 10% and 15% more capacity than the previous ones, with capacities of 3,750 liters for residual waste, packaging, and paper/cardboard, and 2,250 liters for glass and organic waste.
The joint investment for these first two batches of containers amounts to 1.5 million euros. This initiative is financed with surpluses from the municipal budgets of 2024 and 2025 and is part of the budgetary stability agreement between the Government (PSC and En Comú Podem Mataró) and Junts per Mataró. The complete renovation of containers will be carried out gradually, integrated into the future contract for street cleaning and waste collection services.
