Emergency teams are intensely searching for a 16-year-old teenager who disappeared at sea this Wednesday during a jet ski excursion in the bay of Roses. The young person was last seen around 9 PM in the Almadrava and Cala Canyelles area, participating in a guided group activity.
According to initial reports, the minor allegedly separated from the group during the return to port, with the intention of meeting the rest of the participants at Santa Margarita beach. The Civil Guard of Girona has launched an investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of the disappearance.
The search was intensified this Friday with the participation of nine units from the Generalitat Firefighters and two drones from the Aerial Means Unit. The Maritime Rescue center in Barcelona and the Maritime Captaincy of Palamós are directing the operation, which also includes a land search with personnel from Firefighters, the Civil Guard, and the Local Police of Roses.
The jet ski used by the missing person was found overturned on Pals beach, about thirty kilometers by sea from the disappearance area. Officers are investigating whether the young person had the necessary parental permission to navigate and why they were in the water after the permitted time limit for such vehicles.
The reason why the disappearance alert was not issued until 10:45 PM, more than two hours after the minor was last seen, is also being clarified. The teenager's family filed a report after an argument with the organizers of the excursion.
