Junts per Catalunya's hopefuls for Barcelona's mayoralty, Jordi Martí Galbis and Pilar Calvo, have surpassed the required number of endorsements to participate in the party's internal primaries, scheduled ahead of the 2027 municipal elections.
Jordi Martí Galbis, Junts' leader in Barcelona City Council, and Pilar Calvo, a member of parliament in Congress, are the first precandidates to secure the necessary endorsements to run in Junts per Catalunya's primaries for the Barcelona mayoralty. Martí Galbis highlighted that his candidacy is based on "experience, knowledge of the city, and the will to build a winning project to make Barcelona a city with ambition and future once again."
Shortly after Martí Galbis's announcement, Calvo also confirmed she had reached the endorsement threshold. The deadline for collecting endorsements is June 11th, and other precandidates such as Glòria Freixa and Jaume Alonso-Cuevillas have also submitted their candidacies.
“
"Thank you very much for your trust! We were the first to achieve the endorsements and we are moving forward with even more strength with the best proposal for the city. We have talent, we have a team, and we have many people willing to join. With everyone's help, we will build the best candidacy for Barcelona."
“
"Now it's time to take the definitive step: to make Barcelona shine again as it deserves as the capital of Catalonia and leave behind years of subordination and decline under the governments of Collboni and Colau."
Glòria Freixa presented her precandidacy with a video emphasizing the need to work on solving citizens' real problems with "strong leadership." Meanwhile, Jaume Alonso-Cuevillas announced he had endorsed all four precandidates to foster "democracy" and "debate of ideas" within the party, encouraging party members to do the same.
