A group of activists blocked a tourist bus this Tuesday morning on Doctor d'Aiguadé street, in La Barceloneta, to protest against an eviction.

The action, carried out by members of the Sindicat d'Habitatge de Ciutat Vella, involved stopping the vehicle and displaying a banner with the slogan “El bloc Balboa per a la Barceloneta”. Traffic was interrupted for several minutes, drawing the attention of the passengers inside the bus.
The building in question, located on Balboa street, was occupied by a group of young people after the pandemic. According to union sources, the building had been abandoned before they intervened. The occupants claim to have rehabilitated the space and attempted to negotiate a rent with the owner, an offer that was reportedly rejected.
The activists denounce that the owners' intention is to evict the current residents to convert the building for tourist use. Given this situation, they are calling for the expropriation of the property to ensure it is used as social housing for local residents, criticizing the real estate pressure affecting the neighborhood.
