The public company Adif has announced the resumption of works in Trinitat Vella, which will begin next week. These actions, part of the Vallbona variant, will include the use of a compactor and will be accompanied by specific measures to mitigate vibrations and topographical controls.
The decision comes after vibrations caused by the works forced the evacuation of about eighty residents from three apartment blocks last Thursday morning. Although Barcelona Firefighters detected no structural damage to the buildings, residents have now been able to return home.
To prevent further impact, Adif has stated that work will be avoided on weekends, and they commit to informing residents in advance about any potentially noisy activities or those with possible impact. The currently planned works will last for four weeks.
Deputy Mayor Jordi Valls explained that the works involve compacting embankments for a provisional surface railway diversion. This measure follows the scare on July 22nd, when a sinkhole in Vallbona, related to the track-burying works, temporarily halted train traffic on lines R2 Nord, R2, and R11.
