This initiative, set to begin in late 2027, aims to create 150 high-skilled jobs and position the Ribera d’Ebre region as a business benchmark in the information and communication technology sector across Europe.
The President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, highlighted that the project, developed by Rubix Data Centers (a Submer subsidiary), alongside the potential award of an EU-promoted gigafactory, will make the area a strategic location for new technologies.
Pol Valls, co-founder of Submer, expressed his satisfaction with establishing operations in Flix, emphasizing its "true industrial strength," land, energy, and engineering tradition necessary for such a significant project.
The transformation of the facilities, which have been closed since 2023 following a reindustrialization plan initiated in 2015, serves as an example of Catalonia's reindustrialization strategy promoted by Illa. The plant, spanning approximately 13,000 square meters with an installed electrical capacity of 85-90 MW, marks a crucial step for the region's industrial revival.
Illa underscored the importance of public-private cooperation in this operation, valuing Catalan talent and the commitment to creating prosperity. He noted that the availability of sites with adequate infrastructure and competitive energy costs, thanks to renewables, are key advantages for attracting investment.
The president added that the European gigafactory and Submer's facility are complementary, reinforcing the strategic position of Ribera d’Ebre in new technologies, supported by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.
