Storms are expected across a significant portion of Catalonia between the afternoon and evening of Thursday, August 6, 2026, also impacting the metropolitan area and the Barcelona coastline. Civil Protection has activated the Inuncat plan in anticipation of intense weather phenomena.
Showers will travel from north to south throughout the afternoon, from the Pyrenees to the central and northern coast of the Costa Daurada. These downpours could be accompanied by electrical activity, strong wind gusts, and in some areas, hail. They are expected to reach the Vallesana plain and the central pre-coastal area around 6 PM, lasting until 8 or 9 PM, while in Barcelona they are anticipated around 7 PM.
The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat) has issued a precipitation intensity warning, with a low grade for Barcelonès (1 out of 6), predicting over 20 liters per square meter in 30 minutes. There is also a warning for accumulated precipitation over 3 hours, with more than 90 liters per square meter in some counties, although it does not affect Barcelonès.
River basin management bodies from the Catalan Water Agency and the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation will intensify surveillance for potential river and stream flooding. Civil Protection advises extreme caution, particularly for road travel and outdoor activities, recommending avoiding parking in flood-prone areas, crossing rivers or streams, reducing mobility, and staying away from riverbeds and ravines.
