Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) continues its commitment to decarbonizing public transport with the introduction of its first 100% electric neighborhood bus. This new vehicle has begun operating on line 185, connecting the metro stations of Canyelles and Vall d’Hebron. In the coming weeks, four additional electric minibuses are expected to join the fleet to cover the operational needs of the existing 22 neighborhood bus lines.
TMB President, Laia Bonet, highlighted the company's focus on a cleaner fleet, ensuring citizens' right to mobility with the lowest possible environmental impact. This new model, from the Yutong brand, is the first in a batch of five electric minibuses acquired as part of a July 2024 tender for 23 battery-electric buses, including 18 double-deckers. These vehicles will be integrated into the fleet in 2026, replacing those reaching the end of their service life.
The Yutong E7S minibus stands out for its low-floor configuration, offering accessibility features similar to TMB's standard and articulated buses. This innovation significantly enhances accessibility, safety, and comfort for all passengers, especially those with reduced mobility. The vehicle boasts notable autonomy and measures 6.97 meters in length, 2.28 meters in width, and 2.97 meters in height, with a capacity for 26 people.
The tender for these 23 zero-emission vehicles, with a base budget of 19,239,000 euros (VAT included), foresees staggered deliveries throughout 2026. The purchase of the 5 minibuses and 18 double-decker buses is financed by the Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM), reinforcing the region's strategy for clean and efficient public transport.
In addition to these minibuses, TMB anticipates the arrival of 24 articulated 18-meter electric buses by the end of the year, and 20 standard 12-meter electric buses in 2027. These acquisitions are part of the Agenda Bus 2026-2030, which plans for the incorporation of 56 additional electric buses in 2027. In total, TMB's zero-emission fleet will reach 372 vehicles, exceeding 30% of the total fleet.
