The mobilization coincided with the infrastructure's board of directors meeting, where the measures rejected by the staff are to be debated. Employee representatives warn that the cut could reach 8% and affect nearly 400 employees, threatening to intensify protests if the proposal moves forward.
The conflict stems from a report by the General Intervention of the State Administration which detected a "deviation" in part of these workers' salaries, resulting from a long-term technical imbalance in certain historically agreed-upon pay components. The Port argues they are "obligated to correct the detected deviation".
The Port's proposal involves temporarily allocating a portion of future salary increases to correct this deviation, resulting in lower pay rises. However, the staff maintains that alternative mechanisms exist to resolve the issue without harming employees.
The works committee also calls upon the Ministry of Transport, as they believe it has "blocked our collective agreement," and the Ministry of Finance, whom they accuse of not financially supporting the agreement. They insist on continuing to fight to prevent the salary cut, despite acknowledging their lack of optimism.
