The incident occurred on May 11, 2026, when journalist Gerard Romero, from the program Jijantes, contacted two FC Barcelona footballers. After the club's victory against Madrid, Romero called one of the players, who was in a car accompanied by a teammate.
Initially, the journalist greeted the players in Catalan but quickly switched to Spanish. The footballers, however, responded in Catalan, and one of them wanted to make his linguistic preference clear.
“"Here we speak Catalan, eh!"
The journalist acknowledged his mistake and accepted the correction good-naturedly, thanking the footballer for the clarification.
