The new La Sagrera Municipal Sports Center (CEM), located in Barcelona's Sant Andreu district, has opened its doors at full capacity, attracting over 7,000 members in just a few days.

The facility, situated at Carrer de Bonaventura Gispert 37-47, spans nearly 4,000 m² and includes four group activity rooms (430 m²), a weight training room (485.38 m²), two paddle tennis courts, a 1,000 m² solarium, and two outdoor swimming pools. The investment for this new facility amounted to 13 million euros from the Barcelona Institute of Sports.
Following the opening of the outdoor pools on August 15th, the rest of the center became fully operational on October 1st. This new facility complements the offering of the Sant Andreu CEM, located at Carrer de Santa Coloma, 25. Both centers, just a two-minute walk apart, are now managed integrally under the name CEM Sant Andreu-la Sagrera, with a total of 8,000 members.
The new sports center, with a built area of 3,927 m² spread across a ground floor, two upper floors, and a basement, has been designed with energy efficiency and sustainability criteria. It incorporates residual heat recovery systems, integrated photovoltaic installations, aerothermal energy recovery, water self-sufficiency measures, and aims for LEED certification.
The range of group activities will feature around 30 weekly sessions, including cardiovascular exercises, toning, and dance, catering to various audiences. The rapid public response is evident with over 7,000 members, more than 1,000 of whom are former members of the old CEM Sant Andreu, with the rest being new users.
This opening strengthens Barcelona's network of municipal facilities, adding to the existing 41 Municipal Sports Centers (CEM) and 83 Specialized Facilities (IEM). CEMs offer individual or organized sports practice, while IEMs are more focused on specific sports modalities.
