The Barcelona City Council has definitively approved the Special Integral and Urban Improvement Plan (PEMU) for Casetes d’Encarnació, which includes the construction of 13 subsidized housing units, a senior center, and a new square in the Vila de Gràcia.

The municipal plenary session gave the green light, with favorable votes from Junts, PSC, BComú, ERC, PP, and an abstention from VOX, to the plan that will enable the project. This includes the creation of 13 public two-bedroom apartments, which will increase the public housing stock in Vila de Gràcia by 26%.
The project also includes the preservation of the historic casetas' facade, although their interior will be demolished. Furthermore, an open square for residents will be created, preserving the bicentennial oak tree, considered a neighborhood symbol and of local interest.
The planning improves the conservation conditions of the oak tree by expanding the planned square and ensuring all actions are compatible with its survival and biological development. The City Council commits to monitoring its care with expert advice.
Following the approval of the urban planning, the project's drafting, approval, and subsequent tender by IMHAB will proceed. A monitoring committee with neighborhood representatives has been established to ensure citizen involvement.
