The University of Barcelona (UB) will construct two new building complexes in the Pedralbes Campus, one for teaching and research in Mathematics and Computer Science and Economics, and the other for health and biosciences research linked to the Barcelona Science Park (PCB).

The project involves the construction of two buildings aimed at reinforcing research, innovation, and talent attraction in key fields such as mathematics, computer science, economics, and health sciences. The first building, located in the North Pedralbes Campus, will span 2,871.13 m² and will house teaching, research, and services for the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, as well as research and transfer activities for the Faculty of Economics.
The second construction, in the South Pedralbes Campus, covering 2,854.40 m², will be entirely dedicated to research and transfer in health and biosciences, expanding the PCB. This space will accommodate university research groups in health sciences and the headquarters of the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC).
The declassification of these plots from public domain is a necessary legal requirement to establish a surface right in favor of the Catalan Land Institute (INCASÒL). This model is part of a patrimonial collaboration agreement between the UB and INCASÒL, signed in April 2024, continuing previous protocols with the Barcelona City Council and the departments of Territory and Research and Universities.
According to the agreement, INCASÒL will undertake the construction of the buildings and make them available to the UB and other intended users through a lease agreement that will cover the investment recovery costs. The Government's ratification follows previous resolutions approved by the UB's rectorate, Governing Council, and Social Council, and has favorable reports from the General Directorates of Universities and Research.
