Five young people from Sant Adrià de Besòs, students at the Academia Espiral, have completed an international volunteering experience in Cape Verde. This initiative is part of Project Biodiversity, a program dedicated to the conservation of marine biodiversity, specifically focused on protecting loggerhead sea turtles, a threatened species.
The results of the work carried out during the last months of the year have been highly positive. Thanks to the collaboration of local and international volunteers, the project has achieved the release of over 85,000 turtle hatchlings, in addition to the protection and rescue of numerous adult specimens during the nesting season.
The experience in Cape Verde has not only had a direct impact on the conservation of marine fauna, but has also contributed to the personal and educational growth of the students.
The youth from Sant Adrià actively participated in nest monitoring, beach protection, environmental awareness, and logistical support. The Academia Espiral emphasizes that this initiative reinforces values such as social commitment, sustainability, and experiential learning.
These types of projects demonstrate the capacity of young talent from the region to influence global challenges, such as the fight against biodiversity loss, and are expected to inspire other local youth.
