The Berga City Council has begun work on the comprehensive renovation of the Santa Eulàlia neighborhood square. This project stems from a budgetary agreement between the governing team, comprising the CUP and ERC, and the PSC, for the approval of the 2026 municipal budgets. Currently, a public tender has been opened to contract a private architecture firm to develop the project, with a budget of 20,000 euros. The dossier is expected to be completed within three months.
The square, located on Santa Eulàlia street and bordered by Pere II, Antoni Salvador, and Sant Jaume de Frontanyà streets, covers an area of 2,160 m². It currently features a central promenade with plane trees and benches, 35 meters long, surrounded by circulation space and parking. The sidewalks, of variable width, narrow at the access points to the buildings.
The main objective of the renovation is to eliminate architectural barriers and overcome level differences to create more space for pedestrians. The plan is to remove the sidewalks and the central promenade to establish a single-level area that improves passage widths and complies with safety regulations. Additionally, architects are asked to study ways to calm traffic, establishing pedestrian priority without completely prohibiting circulation.
Once the architects present the project within the next three months, the City Council will proceed to tender the works, which are estimated to cost approximately 350,000 euros.
