The city of Berga will receive a significant investment for the renovation of the Ateneu and l'Escac building. The Minister of Culture of the Generalitat, Sònia Hernández, visited the city to announce the allocation of 310,000 euros in the Catalan government's budget for the development of the basic and executive project for these works. The main objective is to relocate the Berguedà Regional Archive.
The proposal, presented by the Berga City Council, has been well received by the Generalitat, which will assume the funding. The project, set to begin drafting in the coming months, also includes the possibility of creating spaces to house the Patum figures within the same building. The mayor, Ivan Sànchez, recalled that the building, once acquired by the City Council, was conceived with the idea of a Patum museum, and that the new project will include a sufficiently large hall for the figures and major cultural events.
Minister Hernández is confident that the project drafting will be completed between 2026 and 2028, a period during which the works are also expected to commence.
Furthermore, the minister announced that the Book of Records of the Administrators and Group Leaders of the Patum will be proposed for designation as a Site of Cultural Interest (BCIN). This distinction recognizes the importance of three historical volumes, dating from the 17th, 18th, and 20th centuries, which document the history of the festival and its protagonists. The minister highlighted that this proposal underscores the value of Berga's heritage and the effective coordination between administrations.
