The Berguedà Council of Mayors has preliminarily approved the 2027 fiscal ordinances, which include an update to the waste fee to align with real costs and comply with state regulations.

The Berguedà Council of Mayors, meeting last Wednesday, has given its approval to the fiscal ordinances of the Berguedà Regional Council for the 2027 fiscal year. One of the main modifications affects the waste fee, aiming to align it with the actual costs of the service and current regulations.
According to a technical and economic study, the net cost of the waste management service for 2027 is estimated at 6.9 million euros. This figure encompasses collection, management of recycling centers, special collections (bulky items, textiles, oil), treatment, transfer, maintenance, and surveillance of the regional landfill, as well as management and coordination expenses.
The household fee will remain at 183.90 euros per dwelling during 2027, as it covers the cost of the service provided to homes. Furthermore, incentives for using the regional recycling centers are being increased: a 3% reduction for one visit, 4% for two, and 5% for three or more visits, thereby promoting proper waste separation.
In contrast, the commercial fee will require revision. The technical report indicates that current revenue does not cover the actual cost of the service for economic activities. The proposal includes adjusting fees to reflect the reality of each activity, updating the commercial registry, and incorporating more objective criteria, such as the number of enrolled students in educational centers or the activity's surface area.
The waste fee finances the comprehensive management system for 29 out of the 31 municipalities in the region, including household and commercial collection, special services, recycling centers, transport, treatment, and post-closure maintenance of the landfill. Efficient separation and recycling positively impact the service cost, reducing expenses and generating income from recovered materials.
