Berguedà will enhance access to justice with the creation of three new judicial offices to be established in Bagà, Gironella, and Puig-reig, following the Justice of Peace and Proximity Plan 2025-2028.

The Berguedà region will soon have three new judicial offices designed to strengthen and expedite justice-related procedures. This initiative, promoted by the government of the Generalitat de Catalunya, is part of the Justice of Peace and Proximity Plan 2025-2028 and its main objective is to provide municipalities without their own judicial seat with more tools to accelerate certain procedures.
One of the new offices will be established in Bagà, which will become the official seat for Alt Berguedà. This office will serve the municipalities in the northern part of the region: Cercs, la Pobla de Lillet, Guardiola de Berguedà, Borredà, Vilada, Saldes, Vallcebre, Sant Julià de Cerdanyola, Gósol, Castellar de n’Hug, la Nou de Berguedà, Castell de l'Areny, Fígols, Gisclareny, and Sant Jaume de Frontanyà.
The remaining two offices will be located in Baix Berguedà. One will be situated in Gironella, serving Avià, Olvan, Santa Maria de Merlès, Montclar, Sagàs, and la Quar. The other office will be in Puig-reig, covering the needs of l'Espunyola, Casserres, Montmajor, Viver i Serrateix, Castellar del Riu, and Capolat. The city of Berga will not have a new office, as it already has its own first-instance courts.
These new offices will centralize the judicial secretariat for the assigned municipalities, without implying the elimination of existing justice of the peace courts. The measure aims to optimize human and economic resources, and each office will be staffed with a procedural manager acting as secretary and a judicial official provided by the Generalitat. The goal is to expedite civil and criminal procedures, as well as civil registry matters, while maintaining periodic itinerant attention to ensure proximity.
Regarding the definitive locations, in Bagà, the provisional office will be in the Town Hall's premises, with plans to move to the old asylum once renovation works are completed. In Gironella and Puig-reig, the respective town halls have confirmed that the offices will also be located within their municipal premises.
