The transfer from Plaça de la Vila, located in the old town, took effect despite the low temperatures recorded on the morning of January 7, 2026. This relocation addresses the need to allow the circulation of emergency vehicles, which was impossible at the previous site during market hours.
“"It's another world. The change is very positive because many people who didn't come to the upper part of the village now come here. We have seen many new faces."
The Councilor for Economic Promotion, Jordi Macià, confirmed that, although the cold caused some stalls to fail (flowers and clothing), the forecast is to reach ten vendors in the coming weeks, tripling the three stalls previously available. New additions include stalls offering roasted chicken, croquettes, and cured meats.
The new Plaça de l'Estació has been equipped with specific services such as a loading and unloading area for buyers, card-operated restrooms, and electricity and water points for vendors. Macià highlighted that the new space has “much more parking,” which could attract customers from nearby neighborhoods like Cal Bassacs or Viladomiu Vell.
Despite the general satisfaction of the vendors, some residents of the old town, such as Jaume Soler, expressed concern about the loss of commercial activity in the historic area, which has seen many establishments close progressively in recent decades. Nevertheless, they acknowledge the logistical advantages of the new location.
