The construction of the wastewater treatment plant in Blancafort, which will serve the entire municipality, has continued since its commencement last October. This project is part of the joint management of sanitation in the region, also including the treatment plants of Montblanc, L'Espluga de Francolí, Sta. Coloma de Queralt, Solivella, and the main collectors of Vimbodí, Poblet, and Les Masies.
The company ACSA Obras e Infraestructuras SAU has been awarded the contract for execution, testing, and maintenance during the warranty year for an amount of €1,838,882.22 plus VAT. The works are projected to be finished by the end of the year. The investment is financed by the Agència Catalana de l’Aigua and has involved active participation from the Ajuntament de Blancafort to ensure wastewater sanitation.
The facility will have a design capacity of 150 m³/day and will include biological treatment for nitrogen removal. The sludge generated will be treated through rhizocomposting, a biological, low-cost, and environmentally integrated method, allowing for its subsequent agricultural application.
Additionally, the plant will feature photovoltaic panels for self-consumption and a system to treat part of the purified water for internal industrial uses, thereby optimizing the use of potable water. This infrastructure aligns with the hydrological planning of Catalunya.
