The initiative, which already has initial approval and technical endorsement, plans to locate the facility in a municipal premises of 111 square meters on the ground floor of a building where rental housing for young people is currently under construction. This space, reserved since 2019 for community uses, will include a multi-purpose room, an equipped kitchen, storage, and adapted services.
“"In small towns, bars often end up serving as civic centers and meeting points."
The municipal leadership advocates for the need to restore a social gathering space in the urban core, especially after the closure of the old establishment that served this function. The idea of the civic center emerged before the pandemic, but the situation accelerated the need to find alternatives, such as the provisional use of the municipal swimming pool bar since 2020.
Now, the council aims to move this activity back to the heart of the town, considering Plaça dels Arbres as the natural center of Blancafort's social life. Despite the administrative momentum, the project's execution is contingent on securing economic aid, primarily from the Generalitat.
Concurrently, the promotion of rental housing for young people, which shares the building with the future civic center, already has a significant portion of its funding secured, although it still needs to be completed with municipal resources and potential credit operations. The goal is to advance both projects this year, provided administrative deadlines allow, and joint management formulas for municipal facilities are being studied.
